Bernini and the birth of Baroque portrait sculpture.
Bust of Costanza Bonarelli (1636–38) from Gian Lorenzo Bernini is one of the most popular statues from Baroque period, which is displayed in The GETTY center Los Angeles from August 5 to October 26, 2008. Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Italian, 1598–1680) and his contemporaries in Rome transformed the portrait bust into a groundbreaking art form. With dazzling virtuosity, these artists were able to coax the living presence and personality of their sitters—creating a "speaking likeness"—from the intractable medium of stone. Constanza Bonarelli drove Gian Lorenzo Bernini mad with passion—and inspired him to conjure flesh from stone in one of his most breathtakingly lifelike marble portraits.
There are many sculptures, sketches and paintings from Bernini and Baroque artists, which were shown in the GETTY museum Los Angeles during the last weekend. That was such a great opportunity to experience the master piece of Bernini.

I love the Getty!! They always have such cool things on display. You should definitely go to the Getty Villa if you have the chance to ^____^
I will Gloria !!!
The Getty is the place where I would want to spend my whole weekend. I have also visited to the Getty Villa (Malibu), but I did not enjoyed that much as I do at Getty Center. Unfortunately I missed that event.
