The concept for 2006-design competition was “Universal Toy”. Department of Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Royal Thai Government took a great responsibility for this event. Designers and students in Thailand who wanted to submit their works had to design a toy, which could be played by all generation in the family. Beside, it should develop skills of players not only the children, but also the parent who play it with their kids.
Form Follows Function
I had designed this toy base on this quote “ Form Follow Function”. The form, shape and materials follow functions. The rounded rectangular-shape of two plates was designed for the safety. Players from both sides should see each other. Therefore, transparent acrylics were used as a material for those plates. The stick was put a number in one side and an icon on the other side, which was made from a wood.
How to play?
First of all, the first player has to choose icon from one side of the stick and out it through the plate from one to whatever (depend on two players). After the first player has put all sticks in the plate, the second player has to pull it of by its order from the first icon to the last icon. This toy develops many skills of every players such as, eye and hand co-ordination, and memorization.
